How You Can Help
Your Country Needs You... to Help Get the Word Out!
Freedom of speech is one of the most powerful rights we have in the United States. Tragically, so many people are not informed and do not let their elected know what they think on specific issues. You can do something about it.
And with all that's at stake with this and other potential judiciary vacancies, your country really needs you to.
Helping others speak up is easier than you might think. We've come up with a number of things you can do to help people to get educated, get active, and speak up. Simply click on any of the list of ideas below and explore how you can get involved.
Got creative ideas? We'd love to hear them. Click on SHARE YOUR IDEAS to e-mail us your thoughts and suggestions on additional ways to motivate people who share your values to vote.
Be sure to let us know what you've been up to, as well, by using the REPORT YOUR PROGRESS bar. We're eager to hear what you've done to help get the word out in your local sphere of influence.
E-mail Co-Workers
Many employers have reservations about any type of policy endorsement in the workplace, but most are very open to a non-partisan educational campaign or a drive to register voters. Before you do anything at the workplace, contact your employer and get approval to promote information sharing or voter turnout. You might even ask if they will distribute the e-mail company-wide. Better yet, invite the president to be the one to send the e-mail to everyone in the company.
E-Mail Friends & Family
The nominations for Supreme Court are expected to be among the most hotly-contested in our nation's history. Every voice matters. Please encourage your friends and family to contact your Senators. It only takes a minute or two, but it could make a world of difference in the final outcome.
Send a Letter to the Editor
One very efficient tool for spreading the word to a large number of people is to send a short letter to the editor of your local newspapers. You can copy and paste the text below into your word processor, customize it for your area/specific newspapers, and then print, sign and send it!
Work With Your Church
One smart way to mobilize citizens who share your values is to set up an informational table at your church. Start by meeting with your pastor or church leaders to get full support for setting up a table in a high traffic area of the lobby/foyer. By law, churches and non-profit organizations are not allowed to endorse or oppose political candidates for office or risk losing their tax-exempt status. But, a nomination to the Supreme Court or a legislative issue is another matter. Non-profit organizations and churches can support a nominee or policy position. Churches and non-profits can, also conduct "Get Out the Vote" (GOTV) activities, so long as the efforts are all completely non-partisan, meaning that the organization does not support, help, endorse or oppose any specific candidate or political party.
